Happy August dudes and dudettes!

Can you believe it’s August already?  Yikes, I can’t recall where June and July went.  If you know where it went, please pass it on to me because I gots nothing.

Did you know that the first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week?  Our lives get crazy, busy, chaotic and wine-filled, so it’s a good reminder to kick back, re-prioritize and find out where YOU want to spend YOUR time.

Sooo…I got to thinkin’.  My life is crazy, busy, chaotic and wine-filled (esp. this past weekend :)).  Since this is my last week in MN before I move to WI this weekend for my new job, I thought it would be an excellent time to simplify MY life so I can organize, pack, spend time with friends and family before I head to Madtown.  In other words, I will be taking the week off from regular food blogging (minus a couple fun posts…because I just can’t stay away completely!).  However, I have some stellar guest posts lined up for y’all featuring a bit of everythang.

Don’t you worry…I will still be popping in, seeing what you all have to say and reading/commenting on blogs but giving myself a break from blogging will give me the extra time I need to maintain my sanity and not bash my head against a wall repeatedly due to stressloads of stress.

With that being said, let me load you up on the Sunday eats…

medium coffee w/ 2% milk & yogurt parfait. unfortunately, the yummy combo didn't do anything for the hangover.

I also just got back from a fabulous 60 minute Yoga/Pilates Fusion class which felt AH-MAY-ZING after being yoga-less for a couple weeks now.  However, I think I was actually sweating wine throughout the entire class :).

  • Coffee (this WILL be first)
  • Start the Shred (due to Drinker’s Remorse, sometimes I feel the need to punish my body for the activities of the night before)
  • Stop at the Goodwill to drop off donation
  • Pool
  • 7pm Yoga/Pilates Fusion class
  • Clean out car
  • Light grocery shopping
  • Organize finances
  • Bloggy thangs + bloggy reading
  • Take a 2 hour nap

The nap was a late addition :).  So, 6 1/2 out of 10 isn’t so bad for the day…all things considered…

Soooo…I miss blogging already, but like I said, you all have a FABULOUS week of guest posts to look forward to, and I think I might sneak in a Holly Investigates… as well as a post about how my marathon training is going so far.

Taking a cue from Janetha…I’ve got some Q’s for y’all:

(1) What was the highlight of your weekend?
Bloggy meet-up with Angharad hands down.  A drunkity drunk drunk good time.

(2) What are two things you can do this week to simplify YOUR life?
First, obv, I am going to take a break from blogging.  Second, I am going to make a moving to-do list so I make sure I don’t forget to do anything while packing up!

(3)  What is one random fact about you?
I had a childhood crush on Bob Barker.  True fact.

Oy vay…what a weekend!

After 3 hours of driving through Wisconsin country, I made it to the ‘rents house!  Tomorrow morn, I have an interview in Madison, which is much closer to Barbie + Ken’s house than MN.  Instead of a 4 hour drive, I will only have a 2 hour drive to get to Madtown for my 10am interview.  Whoop!

Alrighty, where did I leave off?  I believe you all got a recap of the wedding fun to be had in Part One, so I shall begin this morning upon my awaking.  Pretty tired from the 13 miles + night o’ dancing, I woke up at 8:30am to let out the beast one last time.  Then I opened the fridge and had a bit of this…

Peach Chobs + Zoe's Honey Almond granol

The fridge was quite bare.

After eating, I met up with two of my bestest friends in the world for perhaps the most perfect morning ever.  We grabbed coffee (and some extra sustenance for me) at a fabulous local coffeehouse called Spyhouse Coffee and headed off for a GLORIOUS morning walk around the lake.  Instead of a mom walk, it was a friend walk :).

After gabbing and walking about 5.5 miles (we went around twice – we had LOTS of catching up to do), we finally parted ways.  I headed straight to one of my greatest weaknesses in the world: Whole Foods!

After lunchie, I organized and packed all my stuff up at my cousin’s apartment, blogged Part One of the weekend and said my goodbye to Angus the Beast with a big ol’ kiss.  Who am I kidding? There was no kiss.  Dogs are growing on me after my childhood attack by my neighbor’s show poodles, but I am not making that much dog progress.  I threw Angus an extra treat instead :).

Then, I purtied myself up and headed off to my friend’s wedding shower.  I’ve known Miss Lisa Soon-To-Be Smith since 3rd grade…we go wayyyyyy back peeps.

Between the norm present opening and games (which by the way, I broke my 5 shower winning streak tonight, ugh!), I munched some nom nom nom shower food:

Then, I hit the road for 3 hours of cruising through God’s country Wisconsin, haha ;).  Not before snacking on my fave Lara of course…

It’s been such a busy last couple weeks (and an obv busy day planned tomorrow!), I’ve decided to make some mini-goals for the week to try and re-prioritize to make some time for me to decompress and RELAX!

  • YOGA! I haven’t been to a real class or done a real yoga sequence (minus some stretches here and there) in more than two weeks.  Honestly, I can feel a real difference in my body, and I am dedicating myself to doing two 1-hr. yoga seshes this week!
  • Block out time on the planner – this upcoming weekend is the first weekend in almost two months that I haven’t had anything planned (minus another bloggy meet-up with Angharad, which totally counts as decompressing – in the form of food of course). So, my goal is to keep it that way!  An open weekend here I come – please yell at me if I try to plan anything!

What are your mini-goals for the week? If you don’t have any (which I normally don’t), think of two things you would like to get accomplished this week, and we’ll all make it happen together.  Holllllaaaaa!

So…totes props to you all if you made it through both Part 1 AND Part 2 of this crazy weekend I call my life.  Lots of fun was had, lots of laughing was done, lots of droppin’ it like its hot happened, and I couldn’t be more excited to crash into bed tonight. Tomorrow, I promise I will get caught up on all your lovely blogs and lives ~ until then, happy zzzzzz’s to everyone!

Let Freedom Ring, Part 1 July 5, 2009

HAPPY 4th OF JULY EVERYONE!

u19752516

Greetings from the state of cheese – Wisconsin!  Before I begin on the shenanigans of the day, it is only appropriate to start at the beginning!  Yesterday, I was a total cleaning machine.  Mid-afternoon, I broke for a lil’ snackie to keep me fueled as I whipped the house into tip-top shape.  Enter a hot mess…

1/4 cup Optimum Pumpkin Granola Cereal
1/4 cup Kashi GoLean
1/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup skim milk
1.5 tbsp of PB

CIMG3980

After putting in a hard days work (I sound like I’m living in like year 1890, BTW), I met up with these two lovebirds for some apps & drinks before hitting the road to Wisconsin:

CIMG3982

Ashley and Maxx got engaged exactly one week ago from today!  They are seriously too cute :).  Maxx’s sister was actually in town as well, so the four of us met up at MOTO-I, a Japanese restaurant in Uptown Minneapolis, for some yummy drinks and eats.  You could easily pass this restaurant if you weren’t looking for it, but it is the only place outside Japan that brews their own sake.  Pretty cool, no?

I started with a MN-brewed Summit Oatmeal Stout with some kaffir lime-spiced peanuts (shared amongst us all)…

CIMG3983

Then a sampler platter of assorted eats (l-r): a Tofu, Ponzu & Sweet Chilli Steamed Bun, sticky rice and a sweet potato pancake thingy (I don’t think that’s the technical term…).

CIMG3984

The restaurant was super yummy, and the best part?  They had SHUFFLEBOARD!  Oh yeah, us four definitely squeezed in a game before we had to part ways.  After lots of chatting, it was finally time to hit the road to head home to the fam.  Of course, when traveling, snacks & beverages are a MUST.  If I am going to be driving 3 hours dang it, I’m going to need some good tunes, good munchies and good caffeine – a pint of blueberries (I am a serious fruit fiend today) and a Almond Joy blondie (soooo good!):

Finally I arrived to good ol’ home sweet home.  Then went straight to bed.  For real.

After a glorious night’s sleep in my own bed (aka best thing ever), I woke up and shocker of shockers! didn’t have coffee this morning.  Instead, I guzzled a big glass of water in preparation for today’s 10-mile run as well as a classic Holly breakfast – PB+B on toasted Ezekiel!

CIMG3990

A funny thing happened – at home, my parent’s buy Skippy Natural peanut butter, which was totally my old FAVORITE PB.  Seriously.  I used it for breakfast this morning however, and I couldn’t believe how kind of artificial and odd it tasted after only eating the good stuff (PB made only from peanuts + salt) for like a year now.  I didn’t like it at all – one of those little things that kind of show you where you’ve been and where you are now :).

Then it was time for the weekly long run – this time, the big 1-0 for mileage.  Luckily, Mama Everythingtarian (she’s totally one hot  fit mama) ran the first 7 miles with me, which made the time go by so fast.  Then the last 3 miles, I stepped my game up and hoofed it – completing the 10 miles in just about 100 minutes (10:00/mile).  I took her at an easy pace and felt really good!

When I got back, I guzzled water and stretched for a good 15 minutes.  After about another 1/2 hour, I was ready to eat and devoured a yummalicious lunch…Blueberry + Banana Smoothie (1 cup skim milk, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 banana + 1 huge handful spinach) plus a Jumbo Salad (spinach, tomato, broccoli, cucumber, peppers + drizzle Newman’s Light Balsamic) and a Berry Oatmeal Almond Blondie!

Then, it was POOL TIME!

1, 2, 3 - JUMP!

Two things: (1) My mom has awesome camera skills (ummm...where did my other sister go?), and (2) I did not purposely wear a 4th of July swimsuit - I swear it's the only suit I own.

After the pool, it was totes time to whip up some dindin!  I helped Barbie in the kitchen and chopped veggies like I’ve never chopped them before.  I was totally getting snacky, so I had a Tahini Cookie (x2) and a string cheese to tide me over until chow time.

CIMG4024

Look at this lovely array of dinner eats – I love coming home for a plethora of reasons (I swear Mom & Dad!), but one of my favorites it getting spoiled with yummy eats I can’t afford myself (i.e. salmon).  On my plate:  1/2 garlic breadstick (from the fab Amish bakers at the farmer’s market), grilled salmon, roasted veggies & sweet potato fries!

CIMG4026

Seriously. So. Good.

Dessert was equally fab.  You’ve just got to love a holiday where you can celebrate your independence and chow down at the same time – thank you America!  Enter strawberry shortcake + Almond Joy Blondie + vanilla ice cream.  Seconds, anyone?

CIMG4028

That’s it for part one! I can tell you are just all on the edge of your seats for “Let Freedom Ring, Part 2” but don’t you worry kids – a full wrap-up of fireworks and family fun (including Mama & Daddy Everythingtarian!) is coming your way tomorrow!

Hope you are all enjoying your 4th of July, relaxing with friends & family and taking time to enjoy life (including food, fun & flippin’ good times)!
