The Healthy Everythingtarian

finding a better balance in exercise, food and life

My New Boyfriend August 13, 2009

Everybody…meet the newest member of The Healthy Everythingtarian family…

CIMG4631

Meet my new love...McMac!

I can’t even express how hard I fell in love with McMac.  At first opening of the box, I knew me and him were meant to be.  He’s sleek, suave and ultra sophisticated.  Just my kind of guy.

The even better news?  The same day I got my new comp (shoutout to Daddy Everythingtarian for helping his dear daughter purchase said McMac!), my Internet equipment also came!  As of 8pm tomorrow, I will be with computer AND with Internet.  Release the doves and let the animals run free – freedom is here people!

I don’t think I even begin to say how much I missed y’all.  Even though moving into the new hippie abode has been taking up lots of time as has starting a brand new job, I knew something was missing from my day-to-day activities.  So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for being patient and sticking with me through all of it. Your dedication shall be rewarded my people.

Back to the good stuff….THE EATS!  Here is a sample buffet of what yours truly has been putting in her workin’ gal belly:

First, multiple, consecutive days of overnight oats (alert: new obsession!) using the standard recipe:

1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup organic skim milk
1/4 cup POM juice
1/4 cup nonfat plain yogurt
2 tbsp. unsweetened shredded coconut

~ soaked overnight ~

fruit of choice
hunk o’ almond buttah

bananas are the popular topping of the week

bananas were the topping of the week

yep, more overnight oats

Shoutout to Jess for finally turning me away from the darkside and towards pepperjack cheese!

***OBSESSION ALERT***  Go home and freeze your applesauce right now.  It will be the most delightful summer frozen treat you have experienced yet.  Just trust me.

Without working Internet or TV, I’ve resorted to doing makeovers in my spare time…

pre-makeover

CIMG4622

post-makeover...isn't she a beauty?

Who knew nonfat plain yogurt, smashed banana, Banana Nut Cheerios, buttloads of cinnamon and almond butter could look so fabulous?  I didn’t.

salsa + black bean + spinach wrap and more yummy applesauce (unfrozen)

Some pre-run fuel for my mid-week 8 miler (which for the record, was one of the BEST runs I have had in a LONG time!  I think my body does not run well in the heat :()…

1/2 banana walnut muffin

Now, I sit happily blogging at the cutest lil’ coffeeshop (with free WiFi, yesssss!) around the corner from my apartment with a decaf skim chai latte (brewed with real tea bags…not the concentrate crap).

Sidenote: If you drink cow’s milk, lowfat and nonfat milk are perfect post-workout recovery fuel.  It is the perfect balance of carbohydrates + protein to repair those muscles.  Just make sure you buy organic and preferably from small farms – hopefully the milk will come from happier cows :).

In happy moving news: I joined my local co-op which is a 5 minute walk from the apt!  It is adorable, stocks a plethora of of local, organic produce and fair trade products and I am part-owner.  I also joined a gym, which I really like so far.  I went to a yoga class on Monday that kicked my arse.  Love it.  Do you like how the two first two things I do when moving to a new city are find the nearest grocery store and gym?  Haha…that is healthy living dedication!

Alrighty peeps, I’m rollin’ out to go read blogs, spend quality time with McMac and pack for my weekend trip back home to MN for a wedding.  The weekend also might involved a lovely brunch outing with our fave Brit…wink wink.

Happy Thursday everyone!  Since I am behind the times, I demand (yes, DEMAND!) you leave a comment and tell me something you’ve been up to this week.  Funny stories, weekly goals, exciting news and happy events are all welcome.

My highlight of the day today was having a High School Musical jam session with one of my fab new co-workers in the office.  It ruled.

    YOU’RE BACK!! Thank god.

More than happy to oblige your demands my dearest! I LOVE that you said “arse” instead of “ass”. I am creeping into your soul.

REALLY excited about brunch this weekend. I have a long run Saturday too…except mine is only 7 miles….mwahahaha. Just kidding, you’re going to rock it poppet. Where do you want to go? Thinking caps on lads.

Thanks for the overnight oats advice 😦 I think you’re right about them needing a butt ton more liquid. Maybe I’ll put my Pom juice to similar use – still haven’t cracked into it!

Love that you’re blogging from a coffee shop; I keep meaning to do that some lovely Sunday afternoon but not finding the time.

Also: tikka masala, wrapology and banana walnut muffin = out of control! Want!

    Much love sweet cheeks xx

  2. Holy yum! Your oatmeal combos look sooo good!!! I’m drooling over here!

  3. Oh, I love the boyfriend… I can tell why you fell in love with him… 😉

That’s exciting that you joined a co-op and a gym; a good grocery store and a friendly gym are definitely the first things I’m looking for in a new place… 🙂

What have I been up to? My week has actually been kind of boring, except that I got to go to the dentist on Monday. Lucky me! I hate/dread/fear the dentist. Well, not my dentist, he is a really nice guy. But I don’t like people poking around in my mouth… Okay, so this was neither funny nor happy nor exciting. But it’s my life, okay! 😉

Have a nice trip, and enjoy the wedding!

  4. Lizzy Says:

YAY! congrats on McMac! love him! 🙂

  5. WholeBodyLove Says:

I’m glad you found a co-op. They are such great resources for fresh, seasonal produce!

  6. Anne K. Says:

Awesome computer! It looks so cool. And that’s great that your internet will be up soon! That almond butter in your oats looks fantastic 🙂

  7. Yay, you’re back! A co-op? A coffee shop with free wi-fi? A butt-kicking yoga class? A fab new job? No wonder you moved! Congrats on the new computer – love, love, love my mac 🙂 I’m off to the Healthy Living Blog Summit in Boston tomorrow, hooray!

  8. Katharina Says:

So glad you’re back and that your life is almost in order again! MACBOOKS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So shiny 😀 Glossy screens are way better than matte. Pepper jack is where it’s at – try it with apple butter and grill it in a sandwich.

  9. Alison Says:

Oh thanks god you’re back, we’ve missed you!! Seriously.

I recently found our local co-op, I’ve considered joining as well! You can volunteer a couple hours a month to “pay your dues”. I’m thinking about it.

Do they have BULK NUT BUTTERS like ours does?? That’s the best kept secret in the city if you ask me.

And a new gym with yoga classes to boot? *swoon*

    Welcome and hello to McMac!

Hmmmm… my story of the week?

I guess that would be someone coming up to Maxine at the park and asking her “can you talk?”

She replied “Minnie pooped out a hair ball!” (Minnie would be our cat, who’s hairballs do indeed look like a bowel movement.)

    Yeah. She can talk.

  10. leianna Says:

I love your new computer and happy you are back with posts and great eats! Your food makeover looks good in a messy kind of way:)

  11. Karena Says:

Hooray for a fun new computer!! No fun stories this week, but I did have fun making myself a new blog header (instead of doing work haha)!

  12. Hurrah for your return! 😀 And McMac is such a good lookin’ guy. 😉

I’m the same way with running in the heat…if there’s a nice cool day that comes along, I tend to feel *amazing* after running in a heat wave.

Oh, and you’ve intrigued me with frozen applesauce…does it really harden? Or does it get mushy/soft but not completely frozen hard? Or should I just stop asking questions and try it? haha… 😀

  13. VeggieGirl Says:

HOORAY!! I love my MacBook as well 🙂

This week = continuing to train my new puppy, Chooey.

  14. Christina Says:

  15. Abby Says:

Actually, having a good grocery store and exercise accommodations are my requirements for moving somewhere. School system? Crime rate? Nah…local produce and a yoga studio? When can I move in?

As for my exciting week (insert sarcasm), I overheard a kid asked his mom what kind of bird that was (a cardinal, for the record) and she replied, “That’s a red blue jay…” Seriously.

And I have been addicted to overnight oats as well. Maybe there’s a support group in your area.

  16. Mel Says:

Ohhh… pretty new computer! I love it!

Love the HSM jam session. We’ve been known to do that at work too. 🙂

  17. justine Says:

    LOVE YOU!

  23. uncle tommie timbertoes Says:

If we call an orange orange, why don’t we call a lemon yellow or a lime green?

I think you pay too much attention to grains & legumes and not enough to fruits. I like fruits and would request more information from you on them -alone- not sharing a plate with natural sugars & cereals.

I had an ex-boss who was very wise and he had a philopophy about eating too. His regimen and advice for everyone was to eat like a king in the morining, a prince in the afternoon and a pauper at night. He lived to be 90.

  24. lowandbhold Says:

Ohh so much good news! I’m so happy you’re back. Me and my Mac Mister are pretty hot and heavy too. I think it’s really going somewhere.

All the eats look absolutely incredz!

I was so happy to see your comment pop up today. How I’ve missed you! I think you’d make a bomb-ass examiner. Email me if you wanna talk about it.

    Have fun catching up!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. JB Says:
